Privacy Policy
Last updated: June 2, 2026
DevEdu ("DevEdu," "we," "us") provides cloud-based development environments for education. This policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have. By using DevEdu you agree to this policy.
1. Information we collect
Account information
When you create an account (student, teacher, or administrator) we collect your name or username, email address, a hashed password, and role. Teachers also provide course details; students provide enrollment information.
Content you create
We store the files, code, and other content in your containers so it persists between sessions, plus metadata such as course and environment names, container activity, and timestamps.
AI assistant data
When you use DevEdu Code (our AI assistant), the prompts you send and the relevant code/file context are transmitted to our AI model provider to generate a response. See "AI features" below.
Payment information
Purchases (e.g., student credits) are processed by our payment provider, Stripe. We do not store full card numbers; we receive limited details such as a transaction reference and the last four digits.
Usage & device data
We collect standard log data — IP address, browser type, pages and features used, and error reports — to operate, secure, and improve the service.
2. How we use information
- To provide, maintain, and secure the platform and your containers;
- To authenticate you and protect against abuse and fraud;
- To process payments and manage credits;
- To provide the DevEdu Code AI assistant when you use it;
- To communicate with you about your account, service updates, and support;
- To comply with legal obligations and enforce our Terms of Service.
We do not sell personal information, and we do not use student content for advertising.
3. AI features (DevEdu Code)
DevEdu Code sends your prompt and the code/file context you choose to share to a third-party AI model hosted on Amazon Web Services (AWS Bedrock) to generate a response, which is returned to your container. We use this data to provide the feature; we do not use your prompts or code to train our own models, and we contract with providers that do not train their models on this data. Avoid putting secrets or sensitive personal data into prompts.
4. How information is shared
We share information only as needed to run DevEdu, with service providers ("subprocessors") bound to protect it, including:
- Amazon Web Services — cloud hosting, container infrastructure, and AI model serving;
- Stripe — payment processing;
- Cloudflare — DNS and network security;
- Your school / instructor — teachers and administrators can see the courses, environments, and containers within their classes.
We may also disclose information to comply with law, respond to lawful requests, or protect the rights, safety, and security of users and the service. If DevEdu is involved in a merger or acquisition, information may transfer as part of that transaction, subject to this policy.
5. Data retention
We keep account and content data while your account is active and as needed to provide the service. Container contents are retained per your plan and may be deleted when a container or account is removed. We retain limited records longer where required for legal, security, or accounting purposes. You may request deletion as described below.
6. Security
We use industry-standard safeguards — encryption in transit, hashed passwords, access controls, and isolated per-student containers — to protect your information. No system is perfectly secure, but we work to protect your data and to address vulnerabilities responsibly.
7. Your choices and rights
You can access and update your account information in the app, and request access to or deletion of your personal data by contacting us. Students should also contact their instructor or institution, which may control certain records. Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights under laws such as the GDPR or CCPA; we honor applicable requests.
8. Children's and student privacy
DevEdu is built for educational use, often arranged by a school or instructor. Where a school directs students under 18 (or under 13) to use DevEdu, we process student data on the school's behalf and at its direction, consistent with FERPA and COPPA. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children outside of a school relationship.
9. Cookies
We use essential cookies to keep you signed in and to operate the platform. We use limited analytics to understand usage and improve the product. We do not use third-party advertising cookies.
10. International data
DevEdu is operated from, and data may be processed in, the United States. By using the service you understand your information may be processed there and in the regions our providers operate.
11. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. We'll revise the "Last updated" date and, for material changes, provide a more prominent notice. Continued use after changes means you accept the updated policy.
